Printer sharing between Win2K & WinXP
It seems that Windows XP Home and Windows 2000 Professional systems don't quite like sharing printers with each other. A Canon MF5550 printer was installed on a XP Home machine ( USB connection ), and printer sharing was turned on. The shared printer was installed on a Windows 2000 Pro machine by browsing for a network printer. No errors occured during install, but explorer.exe would generate an error and crash whenever the 2000 Pro machine tried to print. The same problem occured ( except for the error message ) when the printer was installed on the 2000 Pro machine and added to the XP Home machine.
A quick fix was to change the security settings for the shared printer on Windows 200 Pro; allowing full rights for everyone.
